Vorträge und Diskussion (Auftaktveranstaltung des Forschungsprojekts „Global Prayers“)
„Wenn Gott in den Städten der industriellen Revolution starb, so ist er in den postindustriellen Städten der Dritten Welt wieder auferstanden“, schreibt der Stadtforscher Mike Davis. Erstarkte religiöse „Identitäten“ und Bewegungen zählen heute zu den wichtigsten sozio-politischen Akteuren. Mit der Mobilisierung des Religiösen in den Megametropolen – in Gestalt von Islamisierung, Hindu-Nationalismus oder Pfingstkirchen – geht eine Ethnisierung urbaner und sozialer Konflikte einher. Das multidisziplinäre Projekt „Global Prayers“ untersucht die neuen urbanen Kirchen, deren Übernahme von staatlichen Funktionen sowie den damit einhergehenden Wandel städtischer Politiken.

Global Prayers to go / Salvation and Liberation in the Megacities of the World
Lectures and Discussion / (Inaugural event of the research project „Global Prayers“)
„If God died in the cities of the industrial revolution, he has risen again in the postindustrial cities of the developing world,“ writes urban theorist Mike Davis. Reinvigorated religious „identities“ and movements are considered among the most important socio-political agents today. The mobilization of the religious in the mega-metropolises – in the guise of Islam, Hindu nationalism or Pentecostal churches – is accompanied by an ethnicizing of urban and social conflicts.
